nethack.alt.org -- xlogfile archives ==================================== The raw xlogfiles nethack.alt.org actually wrote, one file per server era. 8,680,130 games in 98,239,292 bytes compressed -- of which 8,632,928 are main-game records and 47,202 are dev-branch games that NAO statistics exclude (see below). Scope: everything nethack.alt.org still has. That is the six main-game files -- the same six that feed the site's public statistics -- plus five dev-branch files kept for completeness. The only thing missing is the old SporkHack variant server: its xlogfiles did not survive, so there is nothing to publish. ⚠️ DEV-BRANCH FILES ARE NOT PART OF NAO'S STATISTICS, and you cannot tell them apart by content. The five `*dev*` files below are development builds; their games are excluded from every published NAO stat, leaderboard and record. They report `version=3.6.1` / `version=3.6.2` -- IDENTICAL to the release files -- so the FILENAME is the only thing separating a dev game from a release game. Merging everything into one pile and grouping by `version=` will silently mix them. Format: one game per line, `key=value` pairs, TAB-separated -- EXCEPT altorg-xlogfile-nh343, which uses the old NetHack 3.4 convention of COLON separators. Parse per-file, not per-archive. Within nh343 the field set also widens over time: the oldest 3.3.1/3.4.0 rows carry a reduced set, while later 3.4.3 rows add turns, realtime, starttime, endtime, conduct, achieve, flags. NAMING -- read this before you filter on version ------------------------------------------------ Files are named for the SERVER DIRECTORY the xlogfile lived in, never for a NetHack version, because those two are not the same thing. A NetHack binary gets upgraded underneath a running server, so games of the NEXT version keep landing in the PREVIOUS version's xlogfile until the server is reconfigured. The clearest case: altorg-xlogfile-nh362 holds 205,491 games, of which only 19,371 are actually 3.6.2 -- the other 186,120 are 3.6.3. Likewise nh343 spans four versions, 3.3.1 through 3.4.3. So: if you want "all 3.6.3 games", you must read BOTH nh362 and nh363+ and filter on the `version=` field. Do not infer version from the filename. Every file's real contents are listed below. `-complete` the era is closed -- nothing can write to this file any more, so it will not change. `-partial-YYYYMMDD` a snapshot taken on that date; the source file was still growing. ⚠️ The date ranges below OVERLAP heavily, and an era is NOT a time period. A player can resume a years-old save, so a game finishing today can land in a long-retired file: nh362's last games are dated 2026 with birthdates in 2023 and 2024. If you want games by date, filter on `deathdate` across ALL files -- do not assume the files are chronologically disjoint, because they are not.
